Streetwalking is a series based on architectural ornamentations I found repeated throughout Belgium. Architecture is so often associated with the male figure: power and the phallus. However, in doing research on symbols representing women in various cultures and times, I found a repetition of patterns and shapes that mimicked many of these symbols. The title calls into question the long held judgements made against women walking the streets, their independence, and right of movement.

These prints are a sort of code: portraits of women, without the presence of women. They're a reminder of origin, strength, and the vast - and often unnoticed - roles women play in the world.
